If you want to make a loud statement upon pulling up anywhere, yet avoid the predictable muscle car, this 1982 Datsun 280ZX Turbo is absolutely perfect. It delivers a nice mixture of style, comfort, and performance with all the cool quirks of the time period.

A two-tone blue and silver exterior makes a strong statement, drawing all eyes to this sleek Japanese coupe. This car is slick from one end to the other, plus it has T-tops, a timeless luxury common in sportier cars back in the day. Factory four-spoke 15-inch wheels also add that vintage flair that’s become ever more popular. Venting in the hood and a duct hints strongly at the forced-induction setup housed under there.

Speaking of the powertrain, Nissan realized in 1981 that the 280ZX’s heavier curb weight needed some extra grunt power, so it dropped an optional turbo into the mix. With assistance from the snail, the 2.8-liter V6 made about 40 additional horsepower, making the car a blast to drive. You also get the convenience of a 3-speed automatic transmission, which is still running smoothly. In addition, power steering means you don’t have to wrangle this car through tight turns, while four-wheel power disc brakes make for quick stops.

This car has the original interior, which shows some signs of wear but is still presentable. Having cloth seats, the unprotected dash, and factory controls hold up this well for so long is impressive to say the least. Among the factory-included conveniences is AC, AM/FM/Cassette player, and power windows.

Back when the Datsun 240Z or the Fairlady hit the United States in 1969 it caused a shockwave, much to the chagrin of American automakers. It was fast, cheap, and shifted the perception of what constituted a sports car. Granted, Datsun went in a slightly different direction with the 280ZX when it debuted in 1978, making it more luxurious, but it still captured the excitement everyone expected from Z cars.
