A fully restored example with just 30,000 miles on the clock

Mosing Motorcars is happy to offer the opportunity to call this beautiful 1968 Ford Mustang GT/CS California Special you own. Just 3,200 of these special edition Mustangs were produced, and this one was given a complete ground-up restoration. In the 51 years this car has been around, less than 32,000 miles have been clocked on the odometer.

A 289cui V8 under the hood powers the beast and shifts via a C4 Cruise-O-Matic transmission down to the 2.79 conventional rear axle. Power disc brakes help halt the car with ease, and power steering makes maneuvering a breeze. Creature comforts in the form of air conditioning keeps the cabin cool.

When the Ford Mustang was first introduced for its 1965 model year debut, the car sold like hot cakes. Fast forward a couple years, and sales started tapering off. With the competition heating up,Ā Lee Gray, the Ford Southern California District Sales Manager, had a trick up his sleeve to get sales boosting again.

Gray was a big fan of ā€œLittle Redā€, the 1967 Shelby Mustang coupe prototype equipped with a supercharged 427cui V8 engine. Incorporating the looks of the Shelby prototype into a new special edition Mustang could be the answer to the Mustang's sales woes. Ford signed off on the plan for a new special edition Mustang, and it was dubbed the California Special.

The California Special edition Mustang would be cosmetic only, unlike Little Red. It would still have almost all of the Ford Mustang options available but would only be offered in the western part of the nation and Canada, and it would only come as a notchback coupe. Any available Mustang engine was an option for the California Special, with this one being a two-barrel C-code 289cui V8 good for 195-horsepower.

If this is a classic Mustang you can't live without, go ahead and contact Mosing Motorcars today! Feel free to make an offer here.
