With only 750 built, this Packard is a truly rare find.

The Packard brand is known for its luxury lineup and this 1953 Packard Caribbean Convertible is no exception. If anything, this automobile is an instant classic. Carolina Muscle Cars Inc. is pleased to announce this breathtakingly beautiful classic up for sale. It’s one of only 750 models built, powered by Packard’s smooth straight-eight and designed to add some flair to the traditional and conservative Packard showroom. The Caribbean was a stylish convertible that rivaled the Cadillac Eldorado, Buick Skylark, and Oldsmobile 98 Fiesta.

The Caribbean was a personal luxury car manufactured by the Packard Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan from 1953 through 1956. The car was only produced as a convertible from 1953 to 1955; but in its final year of 1956, a hardtop model introduced. The design for the Packard Caribbean was derived from the Pan American show car that the brand unveiled at the 1952 New York Auto Show. That vehicle was built on the 122-inch wheelbase of the Clipper.

Packard added hand-formed rear quarter panels with fully rounded wheel openings, in addition to a continental kit, chrome wire wheel covers, and a higher-quality interior trim than its counterpart. These features are arguably what make the Packard Caribbean so easily identifiable. All models were equipped with a 327 cubic-inch straight-eight that delivered 180 horsepower.

The example you see here has received a full, comprehensive restoration to get it back to its original condition. The car is wearing a stunning Gulf Green Metallic paint with an all-new green-and-white leather interior. The color combination is eye-catching and will turn heads everywhere you go. It’s not a “loud” paint job, but it’s just the hue to accentuate every curve on this classic. The leather interior is of high quality, in terms of looks and the feel of it. All of the bright-work and bumpers have been triple chrome plated and emit a brilliance that will draw a twinkle in your eye. All five wire wheels have also been restored, and this Packard sports the correct canvas white soft top with matching white boot.

Production hand-built cars from the 1950’s, like this Packard Caribbean, remain highly sought after by collectors.
