Despite being understated, this early American muscle car is definitely worth collecting.

GM made a big splash when it introduced the 1964 Chevy Chevelle Malibu SS. Gone were the large tail fins and acres of chrome which dominated designs in the late 1950s. Instead, this car has an overall simple yet attractive design. Even back when it debuted, the SS was the most sought-after version, making this hardtop coupe well worth considering for your collection.

You get a nice 327ci V8 powering this Chevelle SS, which was the top-of-the-line engine for 1964. Thereā€™s the ease of an automatic transmission, ensuring your gear transitions are smooth.

Adding to the already simple yet muscular looks of this Chevy is an understated Gun Metal Gray paint job. It has a nice shine to it but isnā€™t as flashy as other color choices. Funny enough, that makes this early muscle car stand out among the many crazy options available. Thereā€™s little in the way of brightwork, but whatā€™s there is in good condition, just like the paint. Contrast that muted exterior with the Burgundy interior, which also looks great, and this car becomes even more interesting.

While not a luxury car, this Chevelle Malibu SS does come with some nice upgrades. Bucket seats up front are great for comfort, plus thereā€™s vinyl upholstery. Brightwork trim pieces on the doors, seat frames, steering wheel, and more give off an upgraded vibe to the space. Adding to the authenticity of this Chevelle are the original controls, gauges, and even the radio.

Chevrolet introduced the Chevelle line for the 1964 model year, with the Malibu trim offering more luxuries. It was the SS or Super Sport that pumped up performance further. Of course, the Chevelle went on to become a major symbol of American muscle cars, so to have a first-year example of this legend is definitely enviable. AutoBarn Classic Cars is offering this solid Chevy, if youā€™re interested in purchasing it.
