The AMC Matador was manufactured by American Motors Company (AMC) from 1971 through 1978. The Matador spanned two generations: 1971 to 1973, and a redesign from 1974 to 1978. The AMC Matador replaced the AMC Rebel, which had been marketed since 1967. The facelifted model received the new Matador name and was available as a two-door hardtop coupe, as well as a four-door sedan and station wagon in the full-size second generation. These vehicles were offered to fleet buyers with various police, taxi, and heavy-duty package options. Police departments, government agencies, and even military units equipped the Matador sedans and wagons with the 360 cu.-in. (5.9L) or 401 cu-in. (6.6L) V8 engines.

The Matador was one of AMC’s more eccentric offerings, but gorgeous nonetheless. Just look at this 1975 AMC Matador restomod offered up for sale by Shelton Classics. The Dark Espresso Pearl paint emits a stunning wet look and hugs every inch of the clean and straight body. The paint job is nicely contrasted by the copper powder coated three-piece Rotiform wheels, staggered in size from the front to the rear. The halo-ring halogen headlights and LED taillights give it a nice touch and more updated appearance. The headlight halos are color-changing and can be controlled via a remote, along with the LEDs in the cabin and trunk. The icing on the cake is the bold stripe down the side with a bull painted on the rear quarters.

This car has seen its bumpers shaved to allow its purest form to show through. It also sports a seamlessly integrated rear spoiler. The last custom exterior feature is the front side marker LED lights that are flush with the fender in the shape of the word “Matador.” If all of that doesn’t command your attention, then maybe the interior will. Open the door to the cabin and you’ll immediately take notice of the custom leather door panels with modern switches for the locks, mirrors, and windows. The light brown interior color is a nice contrast to the bold exterior paint and gives this 1975 AMC Matador a more luxurious feel. The seats appear to be AMC bucket seats adorned in custom leather. The customized metal dashboard houses color-keyed aftermarket gauges with a bull on the faces. All knobs, handles, vents, and surrounds are color-matched to the exterior metallic hue.
