The E9 BMW 3.0 CS was a real style icon that formulated much of BMW's traditional design language

Many of today’s BMW’s are handsome things, but you wouldn’t call them beautiful — more style via function, than a designer given the freedom to create an icon. Wind the clock back to the 1970s and the flagship BMW cars were really something to behold. This 1973 BMW 3.0 CS being offered by Motorcar Studio is an excellent example.

This stunning Karmann designed coupe is a wonderfully elegant silhouette with its soft flowing lines, chamfered edges, and lack of B-pillar. Details such as the shoulder-mounted BMW roundels and kidney grille are iconic BMW design traits today, as are the four individual headlights. The CS set trends that would become a staple of the German marque’s identity.

Under the hood is the well-known BMW M30 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine, producing around 180hp. Swapping cogs is taken care of by a four-speed manual transmission.

The large glasshouse fills this cabin with natural light, giving a rather airy feel for a classic car. Its cabin appears in great condition with a well-presented caramel leather upholstery coating almost every surface. A pair of rear bucket seats and a good size trunk actually makes the 3.0 CS a practical classic.

This example was repainted in the 1980s in its factory correct shade Fjord Blue with the interior being refinished in the early 2000s. A few modifications added include Weber carburetors, modern head unit, Nardi wheel, period ‘Cibie’ headlights, and an A/C compressor.

The advert states that the car has been a trouble-free classic to run and own, through its three owner past and 87,281 history. It has been on many road trips and its second owner was so fond of it that he kept the CS for over 25 years!

The car comes with plenty of documentation, its original tools, original keys, and some spare parts collected over the years. $84,900 will grant you this well maintained BMW classic with plenty of charm as standard.
