Throw into the mix an exquisite nut and bolt restoration of the highest caliber and one can begin to understand the $229,000 (£173,100, €202,000) price tag. Even if it still brings tears to your eyes when erasing the boyhood dream that seemed so vivid.

The most noticeable difference on this example is what is lurking and gurgling under the highly polished hood. An LS7 no less. This is the same Kraken-sounding 7.0-liter lump as put in the sixth generation Corvette Z06 as well as the 2014 Camaro Z/28. Pretty potent, then. With 505-horsepower on tap, shoved through a modern four-speed automatic, this is the restomod dream come to fruition.

To harness all that growly goodness is a well suited Art Morrison chassis that is home to state of the art coilovers, a nine-inch braced axle, and a stunning set of Wilwood calipers. Only the finest was good enough for this Bel Air. Naturally rear drums were laughed out of the shop, so disc brakes are offered at all corners.

The interior was taken care of by Steve Holcomb of Knoxville, Tennessee. Custom bucket seats await that are naturally power assisted for both driver and passenger, and the whole setup is delicately stitched together with the finest craftsmanship and baseball style stitching. This Bel Air really is a one off, with all the details carefully thought out to bring it into the 21st century without losing the style that made the original iconic. Just look at that exposed metal at the front, breathtaking isn’t it?
