A rare right hand drive Golden Eagle Edition CJ7 up for grabs gained notoriety as a TV car

At first glance, this Golden Eagle CJ7 appears to be an example of the low-production trim package that needs some work - but it’s actually a lot more than just that. This particular vehicle was in the British television series Civvies, according to the eBay ad, and comes with a box set so the new owner can watch their Jeep in action when it was a star.

For those unfamiliar with the show, Civvies aired in 1992 as a six-part drama series about former British soldiers who were struggling to adapt to civilian life after leaving the service.

The BBC series was met with mixed reception, and has somewhat of a niche following now that it’s available on DVD and digital platforms. Due to the relationship between Jeep and various military units throughout the world, it’s no surprise that the CJ7 was cast in the role as a transportation vehicle for the actors.

As seen on the series, this Golden Eagle is easily recognized as such by the large eagle hood decal. Otherwise, the Golden Eagle package that appeared on CJ5s and CJ7s gave the Jeep a set of special gold spoke wheels, larger tires, Golden Eagle lettering, Levi soft top, plus a décor and convenience group. Back in 1978, the optional package would have added an addition $1248 to the MSRP.

This particular vehicle is equipped with a 4.2-liter straight-six engine, Quad Track three-speed automatic gearbox, air differential locker, Levi Stratus interior, and has 70,000 miles on the clock. The ad says that it was dry stored for 20 years and is pictured in some kind of shed or barn in the photos. The seller offers that the chassis and body are in “good condition for age,” but there’s no details on if it runs or not.

Some small details, like the lack of KC light covers, have changed, and the Jeep would likely need a thorough restoration to make it look and run like it did in the series.

It’s been owned by the same person for 25 years, so they likely purchased it shortly after the show was filmed. Currently sitting at a bid of £1770 ($2000), albeit yet to make its reserve, it could be a worthwhile project to undertake – depending on how high said reserve is, of course.
